Tips About Bedding for Girls Tips

Gorgeous Quilts

Once upon a time, quilts were made at home and passed down through generations. While you're lucky if you have one of these heirlooms, you probably don't necessarily want it getting the wear and tear that kids can exert on things.

The good news is that there are lots of hand- and machine-made quilts on the market, and that they range in colors and size and heft so that they can complement any décor or theme, and still keep you and your child warm. Quilts for girls can have a theme or storyline to them, like ponies or ballerinas or flowers, or they can just be an attractive mix of colors that your little girl likes.

Decorating Girl's Room Tips

Whether you're going to opt for a theme room or just a color palette that has long-term flexibility, a child's bed is the focal point of a bedroom. Because it will be the first thing that catches one's eye when a person walks into the room, and because it is your little girl's most private retreat, you and she should consider how you want the bed to look and feel, and choose girls' bedding accordingly.

Some little girls love lacy and frilly items in soft colors; other girls might have a favorite hobby or cartoon character that they want to use as a theme; still other girls might be very into sports and want to incorporate that into their rooms. Remember: let your little girl's tastes and interests guide you both when choosing bedding.

Under the Sea

Whether it is because of the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale or Disney's movie, lots of little girls dream of worlds under the sea, and of being a mermaid. If the little girl in your life imagines a land beneath the waves, consider using mermaid bedding as a focal point in her room. With a themed quilt and complementary sheets, she'll have all the mermaids she could want surrounding her. Consider accenting the ensemble with stuffed fish pillows and a piece of wall art.

Kid's Room - Kid's Choice!

While there is no real difference in what kinds of bedding are needed by boys and girls, your child's gender will affect his or her tastes and will be a great basis from which you can choose the style, color, and theme for your kid's bedding.

Whether you're in the market for bedding for girls or bedding for boys, you'll want a mattress pad, a bed skirt (unless you have a platform bed under which you don't store other items), several sets of sheets that include fitted bottom sheets, flat top sheets and pillowcases, and bedding for warmth – either a blanket and bedspread or quilt, or a comforter and comforter cover, or a combination of these items. Other bedding you may want to consider includes pillow shams that match the bedspread, quilt or comforter cover and decorative throw pillows.

Sleeping PURRR-fectly

Who can resist those fuzzy faces and big eyes? Yes, kittens are big hits with kids – especially little girls. If your little girl loves cats, consider incorporating them into her room décor with kitten sheets. These sheets can be part of a larger kitten or animal theme, or can be a splash of pattern in an otherwise basic room.

“Mommy, can I have a pony?”

Is your little girl destined for the riding ring? A pony quilt and pony bedding can bring the stables right into her bedroom! Use this equine bedding as a centerpiece for a paddock-themed room, or just as a tide-her-over until horseback riding become a possibility.

Patterned Bedskirts

It used to be that bedskirts were more for hiding what you put under the bed than they were a design element. Now, though, you can jazz up your kids' bedding with patterned and colored bedskirts. Consider a striped or gingham bedskirt to insert a pattern into the room. One fun option would be to use a gingham bedskirt and a solid-colored comforter cover, and then put gingham and other fun pillows on the bed. This turns the idea of bedding on its head and would provide and unexpected and unique twist to your girl's room.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Does she dream of the Yellow Brick Road or a Pot o' Gold? Either way, your little girl is ready for adventure. A rainbow quilt is a fantastic way to bring one her favorite things into her room, and it gives you loads of flexibility in choosing coordinating wall coverings, sheets, pillows and floor coverings.
